The Giving Opportunities Menu Builder
User Guide

How to turn campaign notes into a draft menu that shows donors what they can fund, how much to give, and what their gift will accomplish.

What this is

A giving opportunities menu is a short list of specific things a donor can fund, each with a gift amount and a plain description of what the gift will accomplish. The Giving Opportunities Menu Builder helps you draft that list. You enter information about your campaign and the giving opportunities you’re considering. The tool organizes your notes and prepares instructions for ChatGPT or Claude. You copy that material into your AI tool to develop the donor-facing menu.

The builder does not write donor copy and never asks for donor names. It gets your material into a shape an AI tool can work with, and it lists the missing information before you start.

How to use it

  1. Describe your campaign. Enter your organization’s name or an alias, a website or campaign page if you want to share one, and what you are raising money to accomplish. Include your fundraising goal and timeline if you know them. You can upload text, Markdown, CSV, or PDF files instead of typing. If you completed the Campaign Readiness Self-Assessment, paste your results or transfer them with the button at the end of the assessment. The draft updates as you type. You do not need to submit the form.
  2. Describe each giving opportunity. Each one is something a donor could fund and the amount you would ask them to consider. Give it a title, a category, a gift amount or range, a description for donors, and what the gift will accomplish. Choose whether to feature it first, note donor interest without naming anyone, and record internal notes your team needs to address. Select Add another opportunity for the next one. Start with two or three. Estimates and unfinished descriptions are fine.
  3. Choose a writing style and review your information. Pick the style that fits your organization and the donors who will read the menu. Then check the material for confidential information, including anything from uploaded files. Remove private donor or staff information and any organizational details you do not have permission to share. Keep public or approved gift amounts, and use clearly marked placeholders for confidential ones.
  4. Copy the AI instructions and notes into ChatGPT or Claude. The text opens with instructions that tell the AI how to work with you. It will ask about missing information, help you choose which opportunity to feature first, and draft the menu. Your team confirms the amounts and approves the content before any donor sees it.

What you leave with

Your campaign notes, giving opportunities, and instructions for the AI in one piece of text, with the missing information already listed. From there, one working session gets you to a concise, one-page menu titled “Giving Opportunities at [your organization],” ready for your team to review before sharing it with donors.

Pass it on

The Builder is free and yours to share with any fundraiser who needs to turn a campaign into pieces a donor can act on.
