Campaign Counsel

We plan and conduct the campaign with your leadership team.

From the first feasibility conversations to the final gift requests, we help develop donor relationships and secure campaign commitments. We prepare proposals and conduct solicitations with your leadership or independently.

Your organization also develops the fundraising operation it will need after the campaign, with documented procedures and staff prepared to use them.

What does fundraising campaign counsel include?

Feasibility and campaign readiness proceed together. Donor conversations inform the campaign goal while we prepare your organization’s fundraising operations.

  • Feasibility Study

15–20 prospective donor conversations, with research and analysis of donor interest, gift capacity, and propensity to give. A recommended campaign goal based on the data gathered and the Campaign Readiness Assessment below.

  • Campaign Readiness

Assessment and preparation of your organization’s fundraising business operations for campaign launch.

    • Campaign Readiness Assessment

Review of fundraising policies, workflows, staffing structure, communications, reporting, and technology to identify the operational requirements for campaign launch.

    • Business Operations

Development of staffing responsibilities, workflows, communications, dashboards, and external impact reporting, with staff preparation in the fundraising tools and procedures they will use.

    • Fundraising Policies and Procedures

Best practices, templates, standard operating procedures, and defined roles for gift processing, donor acknowledgment, and stewardship.

    • Fundraising Technology and Project Management

Shared tools for coordinating campaign tasks and tracking progress, weekly core-team meetings, and defined communication responsibilities.

  • Donor Research and Data Management

Management of donor data, identification of prospective donor leads, and ongoing research on prospective donors. This work helps make the best use of the executive director’s time and accelerates the discovery process used to qualify prospective donors and expand your organization’s prospective donor base.

  • Campaign Case Statement and Donor Proposals

Development of the campaign’s written case for giving and individual proposals connecting donor interests with specific funding opportunities.

  • Campaign Branding and Messaging

Development of the campaign’s visual identity and key messages for use in donor communications and campaign materials.

  • Major Gift Conversations and Solicitations

Preparation and delivery of donor conversations and gift requests, conducted with your organization’s leadership or independently.

Costs to budget separately

Grant writing is a separate cost. We work with excellent grant writers and can connect you with them if helpful.

Your organization will need to budget for staff time, event planning and execution, printing and mailing, travel, grant writing, and grant reporting.

A broad planning guideline is 10–20% of the campaign goal for total fundraising costs.

Questions About Fundraising Campaign Planning

About Campaign Counsel and planning your campaign with Anne.

What does fundraising campaign counsel do?

Campaign Counsel helps your organization plan and conduct its fundraising campaign. Empowered Fundraiser Consulting provides feasibility research and campaign readiness, donor research, case statements and proposals, campaign messaging, and major gift conversations and solicitations. Weekly core-team meetings coordinate campaign activity and decisions.

Do feasibility and campaign readiness happen at the same time?

Yes. Feasibility examines donor interest and giving potential to inform the campaign goal. Campaign readiness prepares the fundraising business operations your organization needs to conduct the campaign. These activities proceed together.

What is Fundraising Campaign Launch Pad?

Fundraising Campaign Launch Pad is a guided campaign planning engagement with Anne Murphy of Empowered Fundraiser Consulting. You’ll develop your organization’s Fundraising Campaign and Donor Engagement Plan and the operating playbooks your team will use to implement it.

The engagement includes six guided working sessions, two 90-minute Campaign Plan sessions, and a private capstone with Anne.

Who is Campaign Launch Pad for?

Campaign Launch Pad is for organizations whose staff, board members, and volunteers will implement their fundraising campaign. It provides guided campaign planning with Anne Murphy, including the donor strategies and operating playbooks the team will use.

How is Campaign Launch Pad different from full-service fundraising campaign counsel?

In Campaign Launch Pad, Anne guides the development of your campaign plan and playbooks, and your organization implements the campaign.

Campaign Counsel is an ongoing engagement in which Empowered Fundraiser Consulting helps plan and conduct the campaign. It includes feasibility and campaign readiness, donor research, proposals and solicitations, with weekly core-team coordination through the campaign.

What is the difference between a fundraising campaign plan and the playbooks?

The Fundraising Campaign and Donor Engagement Plan sets the campaign strategy and implementation sequence. The playbooks document the operating procedures and assignments needed to implement it, including donor follow-up, communications, gift administration, and volunteer coordination.

Does Campaign Launch Pad cover donor research and major gifts?

Yes. Campaign Launch Pad includes donor-base analysis, individual donor research, and discovery conversations. You’ll use that work to develop major and principal gift strategies, giving opportunities, proposal drafts, and stewardship commitments for your organization.

What will we learn about donor analytics?

You’ll learn to interpret giving patterns across your donor records, including giving over time and donor renewal. You’ll examine how much of your fundraising depends on a small number of donors and identify gaps in the information behind your decisions. These findings inform your campaign plan and individual donor strategies.

What is relational prospect research?

Relational prospect research examines a person’s documented relationship with your organization and connection to its mission. It draws on giving history and participation, with sourced information about relationships that may help you prepare for a donor conversation.

Wealth indicators help you assess capacity. A person’s history with your organization helps you understand the relationship you’re developing. You’ll learn to distinguish evidence from assumptions and use donor conversations to understand interests that records alone cannot establish.

How will we address donor data privacy, confidentiality, and bias?

Ethical practice is part of the donor research work. You’ll learn to assess whether a source is appropriate to use and document what it establishes. We’ll address protecting private and confidential donor information, including who should have access and what belongs in a campaign record.

You’ll also examine bias in your data and judgments, including whose participation is missing from your records. We’ll distinguish documented evidence from inference and keep unknown information visible as questions to resolve.

Will Anne implement our fundraising campaign?

Your organization implements the campaign. Anne guides the development of your plan and playbooks, then works with you in a private capstone to prepare the implementation roadmap. Your team uses that work to coordinate campaign responsibilities and donor follow-up.

What happens in the private campaign planning capstone?

In your private working session with Anne, you’ll examine how the campaign components work together. You’ll review whether the donor research supports your goals and whether your giving opportunities and messages fit your donor strategies.

Together, you’ll identify gaps and unresolved decisions, refine the campaign strategy, and prepare an implementation roadmap for your team.

When does the Spring 2027 Campaign Launch Pad meet?

Campaign Launch Pad meets online on Mondays, March 29–May 17, 2027, from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. Pacific. The Campaign Plan sessions are April 19 and May 17. Private capstones with Anne are scheduled individually during May 24–28.

How much does Campaign Launch Pad cost?

Campaign Launch Pad costs $8,000 per person through February 15, 2027, and $10,000 per person after February 15. Groups of three or more receive 30% off either rate. CREATE Conference SLC attendees who book a conversation with Anne about fit receive 30% off Campaign Launch Pad through November 30, 2026. Discounts do not combine.

How do we know whether Campaign Launch Pad is right for us?

The next step is a 30-minute conversation with Anne about fit. Discuss your campaign goals and where you are in planning, including who will implement the campaign. Anne will help you assess whether Campaign Launch Pad fits your organization’s needs.
